Saturday after Thanksgiving is just not a day to drive to
San Francisco. We left at 2:30 pm for a 9:00 pm flight and it took about 3.5
hours hours to reach the City. Given the strike that the Lufthansa pilots were
holding you can imagine our dismay when the pilot came out to the waiting area
and got on the P.A. and starting speaking German. Jim and I just knew that he
was telling us that he wouldn’t fly the
airplane. But a cheer went up from the audience, so we knew all was well. He
was actually saying that he was flying us to Munich because he did not believe
the strike was the way to solve problems.
Long hauls are never fun, but smooth sailing, great food and service made this 22 hour
flight to Cape Town more enjoyable. Lufthansa has new converts for
international travel.
