Robben Island, Famous Prison Where Nelson Mandela Was Held

We had one day in Cape Town prior to the ship’s sailing and it was spent at Robben Island.  We had been to CT a number of times, but had never been to this symbol of anti-apartheid oppression. The island is about 35 minutes by ferry and reminds you a lot of Alcatraz. Our tour guide inside the prison was a former political prisoner who had spent 5 years at Robben Island. His narrative was compelling and fascinating.

Nelson Mandela's Cell

This was our 44th wedding anniversary. We had had so many hectic days of travel and safari, we ended the day dining in our cabin and gobbling up anniversary cake. This was our last view of beautiful Table Mountain as we sailed from CT.
